The next screwing
http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | During the first Gulf War, Saddam Hussein's most vocal and intense allies were the Palestinians and their terrorist authority. Yet the first postwar act of the Bush Administration was to stick it to the Israelis and push them into a "peace process" with people whose only desire was to destroy them. The same scenario seems to be developing now with the so-called "Road Map To Peace."
There are two causes of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The first is Arab racism, which rejects any presence that is not Arab in its neighborhood; the second is Islamic intolerance which leads to the same rejection. Between 1922 and 1948, the Arabs were given 90% of the Palestine Mandate -- a territory in which no country existed and which had been promised by its British rulers to the Jews. The Jews were forbidden to live in the Arab portions of the mandate -- a concession by the British to Arab racism. At the same time, because the Jews were a tolerant and democratic people, nearly a million Arabs were assimilated into the portion the Jews controlled where they were given more rights than Arabs anywhere else in the Middle East. The Arab response to this compromise was a seven-nation military assault on this new state, which was called "Israel," and was a state largely composed of recent survivors of the worst genocide in human history. From the outset, then, the Middle East conflict was a war of xenophobic backwardness and ethnic barbarism waged against a persecuted people who intended no harm to their neighbors and sought only peace.
For the next fifty years until this very day, the Arab states have waged continuous warfare against the Jews with the intent of exterminating them or at the very least driving them into the sea. The current American "peace movement" is filled with voices calling for the "liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea," i.e., demanding that the West Bank and Israel be Judenrein -- free of the Jewish state.
The Palestinian Authority and its present leadership (including its newly elected Holocaust-denying premier) is a terrorist entity with genocidal intentions. Sixty-percent of the Palestinians are on record supporting the blowing up of their own children for the purpose of blowing up Jews, especially women and children, and defenseless Jewish civilians. Why does anyone think that such people are capable of making a durable peace? Why should the Jews who were allies of America in its war against Iraq be called on to make concessions to Saddam's Palestinian allies?
If terror is rewarded with American and British support for Israeli concessions, why should the Palestinians not resort to terror again at the first disappointment of their desires? This is how the "Oslo peace process" failed and it is how any peace process that is not prefaced with drastic reforms of the Palestinian Authority and recognition of Palestinian aggression will also fail.
The rap on the Jews is that they have built settlements in the West Bank. Notice that there is no rap on the Arabs for forbidding Jews to even live in the lands that they control, while a million Arabs have the right to live in Israel, and five million more Arabs are demanding to do the same. Why are Jewish settlements in the West Bank -- the historic homeland of the Jews -- a problem for Arabs? Why is it outrageous for Jews to want to live in someone else's country? The answer is that Arabs are racists who reject any Jewish presence in their own lands. This was the cause of the Middle East conflict in 1948, and it is the cause of the Middle East conflict today.
